Scherer considers Pac-10 visits

Michael Scherer is busy with basketball season but the St. Louis (Mo.) Mary Institute Country Day outside linebacker also hopes to make some visits this off-season with USC and Oregon as two possible destinations.
"I'd really like to go out to USC and Oregon," Scherer said.

"Those would be the top two. I've been getting a lot of interest and letters from there. It would be a tough place to get a scholarship from but I think if I go out there I might be able to pull one of those out. Those will be the two places that I'll probably for sure go.
"I have a brother who wrestles for Stanford and he seems to love it so you never know. It would be nice to stay close but if that's one of the schools I'd like to be then I'll go there."
The 6-foot-4, 229-pound prospect already has verbal offers from Boston College, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska and is getting a healthy dose of interest from those two Pac-10 teams along with Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Arkansas and others.
Basketball shouldn't be a major hurdle for Scherer when he wants to visit colleges.
He said as long as he informs his coach early on that he's taking some trips then it shouldn't be a big deal at all. Nothing is planned yet but the St. Louis standout wants to hit the road this winter and spring to get a jump on the recruiting process.
"I'm going to try to get out and get to as many things as I can so I can get closer to making a decision," Scherer said. "Anything that comes up I'm going to try to get to that will fit into my schedule. I know it will be a little tough because I play basketball too but I'm going to get to as much as I can.
"Things are winding down now because I'm on Christmas break and not as many people are coming in and the bowl season started so everyone is practicing. Probably after the season, there will be more people coming in to the school."
