Schaefer takes Big Ten visit

Tight end Calvert Schaefer of Westminster (Md.) Winters Mill has quietly seen his recruiting process pick up steam over the last month. The big tight end also had a chance to recently visit a Big Ten program for their junior day.
"A lot more schools are sending me mail and I've taken a few more visits," said Schaefer, who is 6-foot-6 and 240-pounds. "BC still sends me about three letters a week, I visited Michigan State for a junior day and Bucknell emailed me almost every day during their spring practices."
Schaefer's recent visit to Michigan State definitely seems to leave a favorable impression.
"It was great and I absolutely loved it," he said. "I liked their style of play, the campus, the coaches, just everything about it. And I liked Coach Roushar, the tight end coach, and got to talk to him a good bit."
Schaefer also took visits to Towson and William & Mary in the last couple of months, and now is planning future visits.
"I don't have any planned as of now, and I'm just starting to plan my list of summer camps," said Schaefer. "I definitely am going to the Michigan State camp. That's the only one set in stone."
On his visits, Schaefer is trying to gather information about a few specific things.
"Well I look at the majors first, to see if they have what I want to study," said Schaefer. "Then I look to see if I like the feel of the campus and what the school is about, and the style of play that they have."
