Cameron Scarlett had two-in home visits with Stanford. He loved his visit to campus this fall and really appreciated how the coaching staff recruited him.
So on Monday the four-star all-purpose back from Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic committed to Stanford over UCLA, Washington and Notre Dame, his other finalists, and he provides the Cardinal that big power back they longed for in this recruiting class.
"This school is very special and I really feel at home in this program and location," Scarlett said at his announcement ceremony. This school offers me all I was looking for and more - strong academics and a competitive football program.
"The coaching staff showed me so much love and believed in me through this whole process. … I'm looking forward to my next four years and really excited to formally announce my commitment to attend Stanford University."
Scarlett, rated as the fifth-best all-purpose back and the No. 100 prospect in the 2015 class by Rivals.com, had developed a strong relationship with Stanford through the process.
Coach David Shaw made it a point to visit Scarlett first for in-home visits and then the four-star prospect had another in-home with assistants leading up to his decision.
The Portland Central Catholic standout who's the top-rated player in the state by Rivals.com thoroughly enjoyed his other visits and it basically came down to Stanford and UCLA at the end. His trip to Westwood this fall also went well.
Scarlett appreciated what he saw at UCLA, enjoyed the atmosphere in Los Angeles and said he could see himself in that program but on decision day Stanford won out.
In eight games in his senior season, Scarlett had 832 rushing yards and 14 scores while dealing with a hamstring issue. He also caught three touchdown passes. In the playoffs, Scarlett tore his ACL. As a junior, Scarlett ran for 1,640 yards and 22 touchdowns.
