Scarlet Knights get huge pledge

Rutgers got some big news this week when the Rivals.com top-rated running back in the country gave them his verbal commitment. A member of the prestigious Rivals100 team, Lakewood (N.J.) fullback Dwayne Jones decided he wanted to stay close to home.
Although he had narrowed his choices to Boston College and Virginia Tech just weeks ago, the allure of staying close to friends and family was too much to overcome.

“Number one it was just a good fit for him,” commented Lakewood head coach Don Barnes on the 6-foot-1, 233 pound athlete with a 4.45-second, 40-yard dash. “Second he gets to stay at home, and will have a good support group.
“Not that other colleges wouldn’t, but he has always been close and has that comfort zone. He has that safety net and he is not ready to give that up.
“Finally he felt like a lot of good players in the state were going there, and if it was good enough for them, it was good enough for him.”
Although unsure of his senior stats, Jones gained 953 yards on 103 carries with 12 touchdowns in only six games as a junior. He also added 1,067 yards and 13 scores as a sophomore.
He should have no problems qualifying with a 2.7 GPA and a 940 on his PSAT.
