Scales claims a No. 1

Cornerback James Scales out of Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford claims five scholarships. The 5-foot-10, 179-pounder appears to be on the verge of more, but claims one school sticks out at this time.
"Right now I've got five offers from Duke, Oregon, Kentucky, Louisville and Ohio," he said. "My coach sent tape up to Connecticut and I'm supposed to hear back from them any day about an offer.

"Also, Virginia said they are going to watch my first game of the season."
According to Scales, a decision may not be far off.
"I'm getting pretty close to making my decision," he stated. "I'm thinking about doing it the third game of the season.
"Right now my No. 1 is Oregon. My teammates, Keenan Allen and I really like Oregon and it's a good atmosphere. That's the only school that offered me, him and Maurice Harris (2011). We all took a trip out there and everyone liked it. If we come in and work hard, we all could see the field early."
Certainly it sounds like the three prospects want to play together at the next level.
"That's in the works," he said. "We've played together since rec ball. We have always been real close and dreamed about playing together. It's a dream that could come true at a big-time Division I school."
Recruiting is heating up, but Scales primary focus is the season, which opens up on Friday night.
"I'm seeing a lot of improvement after all the competition I faced this summer. I think it's putting me on another level."
