Sargeant picks up first offer

Following the Nike Camp at Stanford, we did a story on 10 sleepers to watch- Sleepers to Watch, players floating under the radar screen. One of those players was Lompoc (Calif.) Cabrillo running back Lydell Sargeant who just picked up first scholarship offer.
Sargeant, 5-10, 175 pounds had a very nice showing in Palo Alto where he clocked a 4.56 in the 40, jumped 30 inches in the vertical and did 15 reps on the bench. He was also singled out as one of the top backs in the position drills showing a nice burst and very good balance and vision.

On film is where Sargeant really impressed us. He's an explosive player who hits full speed within a couple of yards. He's a slasher who can cut at full speed without having to slow down too much because of his great balance.
"BYU just offered him and he's also hearing from Arizona, San Diego State, Stanford, Cal, Boise State, Nevada, Colorado State and Fresno State," Andrew Sargeant, Lydell's father said. "Those are his favorites right now since they're all showing the most interest."
As a junior, Sargeant rushed for 1,300 yards and 22 touchdowns. He's also very solid academically carrying a 3.5 GPA and he scored a 1090 on the SAT.
