Santana focused on his senior season

JC Santana

THE LATEST: There isn't a lot out there about JC Santana anywhere. He doesn't do a lot of stories, but has a double-digit offer total with a number of power five offers. The 6-foot-1 and 175-pound Santana plays for one of the top high school programs in the state of Texas at Katy (Texas) and that should draw some attention itself.

Santana has a team first attitude and spirit about him that doesn't allow himself to think of himself before his team. He knows his role. He feels it from the town. He recognizes it in the calls from his head coach when the play is called. Santana won't get serious about recruiting until the final whistle blows this fall for he and his teammates.

IN HIS WORDS: "I help my team try to win and I do my job. I block for my running backs and when coach calls in a pass play he expects me to score. It's my job and my role on the team. I have a whole city that believes in me. I can't let them down so when coach calls a pass play he's looking for me to get my team back in the game.

"If you watch our game against Westlake this past Friday you will know exactly what I mean. It's a grind. We're held to a higher standard at Katy. It's not about my stats it's about helping my team win and that's it.

"I play the X and I hold about 13 offers. A couple are power five, but I'm grinding this year to help myself get better power five offers. If I just help my team in all ways then the offers will come. I'm worried about getting my team to another state championship and that is it. After the season is over I will worry about my college career."

RIVALS' REACTION: You have to admire Santana's words. There are college coaches that would really like to have some of this attitude on their team. Sometimes the need for a player goes beyond the playing field. Some times it extends into the weight room or possibly the class room. In Santana's case it may be some or all of those aforementioned things. It's also definitely the locker room. His attitude is one of a true team player.
