Sands takes visits, adds offer

Offensive tackle Tyler Sands out of Boyertown, Pa. took three unofficial visits in the past few days. One was to Duke, but the 6-foot-6, 290-pounder also made visits to Maryland and Navy too.
"I visited Maryland and Navy late last week," he stated. "I had a real good time at Navy. It's totally different than a normal college and definitely something that peaks my interest. I got to talk to all the coaches, sat in on player meetings and met Paul Johnson. It was nice to talk to him for a while. He's real friendly about discussed what goes on at Navy. They have a beautiful campus."

Following the trip to Navy, Sands made a trek to College Park.
"Maryland was good too," he said. "I got to go over there and watch practice. It was really nice to watch the offensive line. I learned a lot about my mechanics and more. During practice, I also talked to a few other recruits and then I went inside to talk to coach Bossard, my recruiter. He was real nice and showed me around the football facilities."
In the past month, the Pennsylvania lineman has taken trips to Virginia, Boston College, Duke, Maryland and Navy. Have any of the visits stood out?
"Of the visits so far, Duke has really impressed me the most," he said. "I had a really good time and was able to see everything, the spring game, facilities, campus and I sat down with coach Roof."
Plenty of other colleges are working to get Sands on campus.
"I'm hoping to visit Nebraska, Akron, Vanderbilt, Illinois and Temple in the near future," he said. "I'm planning to at least go to one of those in the next couple weeks to help myself get closer to a decision."
Meanwhile, Sands grabbed his seventh offer on Monday.
"I picked up an offer from Illinois," he said. "I actually haven't thought much about it since they didn't show much interest before the offer. Now I'm going to do my research and find out more about them."
Sands plans to attend the Elite College Combine on May 1st.
