San Diego standout sees offers rise

There is a player who plays in San Diego County who has been racking up offers this spring. Every school that has come by his campus this spring has either offered or is bringing back a video to show the head coach.
The player who is causing such a stir is cornerback/wide receiver Anthony Houston (6-4, 200, 4.53) from San Diego (Calif.) Mission Bay.

It is easy to see why there is such intense interest in Houston. There aren't many athletes his size and speed with the flexibility to match.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers were the first school to come out of the box with an offer. They were soon followed San Diego State, where his brother is a redshirt freshman linebacker.
Arizona and Arizona State have also thrown their hat into the ring with scholie offers to Houston.
LSU and Kansas State have already been on campus and those two schools are said to be coming back to the Mission Bay campus with a written offers. All they want to do is show Houston's tape to their respective head coaches.
The Oregon Ducks are also said to be very close to offering.
"Anthony is being recruited for his talents on both sides of the ball," Mission Bay coach Rolando Garcia said. "It seems half the schools are recruiting Anthony as a wide receiver while the others like him as a cornerback."
"Anthony has so much upside potential," Garcia said. "Not only is he tall, but he has the frame to gain weight without losing any quickness or speed."
"Once Anthony gets involved in a D-I school's training regimen," Garcia said. "He could weigh a solid 220 pounds."
In an earlier interview with Mission Bay head coach Dennis Pugh he had the following to say about his talented two-way standout.
"It is easy to see why he is being so heavily recruited, he's a legit player," Pugh said. "Guys with Anthony's height and speed are very hard to find. He has the size to play with the bigger wide receivers that the game is seeing much today."
"Anthony is a great athlete," Pugh said. "His best football is in front of him. Anthony still has a lot of untapped potential."
"You don't see a guy like Anthony come around all the time," Pugh said. "He kind of reminds me of Kellen Winslow, Jr., when he was playing around here."
"I haven't had a guy get this much recruiting attention in awhile," Pugh said. "The last time was probably Scott White who is a starting linebacker for Washington."
As a wide receiver, he led the team in receptions with 17. He also had 253 receiving yards and four touchdowns. On defense, from his cornerback position Houston racked up 31 tackles and had two picks.
Houston wants to play wide receiver but cornerback may be his best position on the D-I level.
