Athlete prospect Marcus Hollingsworth (5-11, 195, 4.6) from San Diego, Calif., does everything well, and being the team’s best athlete, he lines up under center as an option quarterback.
This enormously talented athlete also plays defensive back and he could end up playing either corner or free safety on the D-I level. Hollingsworth was selected all-CIF and all-league as a junior. He was also selected 1st-team all-academic and was San Diego high’s MVP.
Hollingsworth has great strength for a young man his size and weight. He benches 300 pounds and squats 450. Hollingsworth also recorded a solid 31-inch vertical jump.
The bad news for fans of all the California schools is he wants to leave the state for college.
“I want to go far away from California,” Hollingsworth said. “I want to grow as a human being and I want to learn how it feels to be away from home.”
“I am looking for an established program with a coach who has been there for a while,” Hollingsworth said. “I don’t want to enter into a rocky situation where the coach may be gone while I’m there.”
“I am mostly being recruited as a corner,” Hollingsworth said. “Some schools may want to try me as a wide receiver.”
San Diego high head coach Any Diaz said to Pac10Recruiting in an earlier interview, “Defensively he loves to hit, that is why he may end up at free safety in college”.
While Hollingsworth is very open regarding school choice, he told Pac10RRecruiting that he has offers from San Diego State, Colorado and Arizona. Colorado State could be close to offering.
Hollingsworth is getting considerable recruiting action from Pac10, Big XII, Mountain West and WAC schools…
