Sampson receiving early interest

As is usually the case at North Mesquite (Texas) High School, playmakers like junior receiver LaNear Sampson are usually on the recruiting radar early.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Sampson was part of a loaded receiver corps this past season and still managed to haul in 24 receptions for 425 yards and four touchdowns. Now, the recruiting interest is coming in strong and his first scholarship offer may be just around the corner.

"No offers have come yet, but Oklahoma State sends me mail, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Iowa all do too," Sampson said.
One of those schools has emerged as an early favorite.
"Oklahoma is up there," Sampson said. "I don't know what it is, I just really like their program. I know Darien Williams who went to North Mesquite and I've been to his house a few times."
Sampson says he'll most likely not stretch out the recruiting process. He says his commitment will probably be earlier than several other prospects around the state.
The reason for the early interest may not just be about his pass-catching ability. Sampson says that his team takes pride in being well-rounded.
"I'm real physical and I'm a real good blocker too," Sampson said. "That's all we do in practice. We focus on how to be better blockers."
