Saint Bonnie DL emerging

One of North Ventura County’s best programs for football talent is Ventura (Calif.) Saint Bonaventure. Under the guidance of head coach John Mack the Seraphs have consistently sent their best players to the D-I level. This year once again Saint Bonnie has prospects for us to keep our eye on. One of them is defensive lineman Carlton Gillespie (6-1, 250, 4.8).
Gillespie is a fine all-around athlete who also plays basketball and throws the shot and discus in track.

Gillespie was an all-league selection as a junior after racking up 54 tackles and four sacks.
“I think Carlton is one of the most dynamic defensive linemen in the state,” Saint Bonaventure head coach John Mack said. “He has tremendous athletic ability in a gigantic frame.”
“Carlton’s forte is rushing the passer but he’s a beast against the run, too,” Mack said. “Maybe that is why he is hearing from some pretty good colleges.”
Gillespie has already heard in the early goings of the recruiting process from Notre Dame, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington and USC.
Gillespie went to USC’s junior day and he really loved it.
“Carlton really likes Coach (Ed) Orgeron,” Mack said. “He also likes the idea of going to a prestigious University with a great tradition.”
Gillespie has good lower body strength with a squat of 480 pounds. His power clean is 264.
Gillespie is an honor student who carries a 3.7 GPA. He will take his SAT on May 1st.
