Saffen gets USF camp invite

Daytona Beach (Fla.) Seabreeze quarterback Will Saffen took unofficial visits to several in-state schools recently and came away with an invite to one school's forthcoming prospect showcase camp.
"My visit to South Florida was really cool," Saffen said. "I liked the school and the campus and all and they invited me to their senior showcase this weekend. They've offered three quarterbacks and one of them is going to be there, so they want to get a look at me and see how I compare to him."

Saffen said there were multiple aspects of the USF program that he liked, including the fact that the school was a member of the Big East Conference and eligible for the Bowl Championship Series.
Florida International also was a positive visit for the 6-foot, 184-pound signal caller.
"FIU was really cool," he said. "Coach Hurlie Brown showed us around. It's a nice campus. They were telling us how they were going to build new facilities and a new stadium and stuff like that.
"They also talked about their quarterback for this year and how he was going to probably play in the NFL because of what he had learned playing for coach Don Strock."
The Golden Panthers did not offer Saffen, who sat out most of last season with an injury, but did seem quite interested.
"They said they liked my tape," Saffen said. "They just want to be a little surer. They want to come to two games this year and scout me in person. They said they kind of need to get to know me a little more."
Saffen also went to Florida Atlantic.
"They said they were only signing one quarterback this year," he said. "I think FIU is a little more interested. But it was a good trip."
