Safety is a blazer

Strong safety Cory Finnerty (5-10, 172, 4.58) Ventura (Calif.) Saint Bonaventure opened up eyes last May at the Ventura County football combine with a blistering 4.33 forty time in front of over 50 D-I coaches.

Finnerty also had one of the best shuttle times at the NIKE Camp held in San Diego when he motored the shuttle in 4.07. He also recorded a 30-inch vertical jump and benched 185 pounds, 17 times at the NIKE Camp.
Saint Bonaventure has one of the best programs in Ventura County and of all southern California. Coach John Mack makes sure his athletes are in shape and Finnerty is in great shape.
Besides being fast, Finnerty is a workout warrior. His bench is a very impressive for his size 290 pounds. His squat is 385 pounds.
Finnerty was selected all-league as a junior after racking up 67 tackles and five picks.
The scouting report on Finnerty is he’s very coachable and very intelligent. He takes what he is taught and then applies what he learns. Finnerty is one of those old-fashioned football players who plays with a lot of heart.
“The best play we have on film last season was when Cory was playing right outside linebacker and then he makes the tackle on the left side of the field making the play 30 yards away,” Saint Bonaventure coach John Mack. “He makes a lot of plays and is relentless in pursuit.”
What is Finnerty looking for in a school?
“I want to be an engineer,” Finnerty said. “So I want find a school with a good engineering program.”
“Also I want to play for a program with moderate weather.”
Finnerty is receiving recruiting attention from Nevada, Boston College, Colorado and Stanford. He is a full qualifier with a 3.5 GPA and 1040 SAT.
