S.C. sleeper talks recruiting

Greenwood, S.C., athlete Zearrick Matthews has not had a lot written about him so far in the recruiting process, but this multi-talented Palmetto State star is one to keep an eye one. He made his first camp appearance this weekend.
“I went to camp at Georgia this weekend with Antavious Coates,” Matthews said. “I thought the camp went okay, I was pretty impressed with how everything was run. I went up with Antavious and we had a lot of fun just hanging out and stuff.”

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Matthews plays quarterback for his high school team, but his future on the college level will be either as a wide receiver or a defensive back.
“I got to talk to (head) coach Richt and he told me where I stand with them,” Matthews said. “He told me that they are really interested in me, but I need to get my grades up before they can think about offering me. He said that he thought I could do it and that they would be keeping an eye on me this season.”
The all-region performer racked up 1,192 yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground and threw for 1,450 yards, and 11 touchdowns as a junior.
“Right my top five schools are Tennessee, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Clemson and Maryland,” Matthews said. “I would have to say that Tennessee is probably my overall No. 1 school right now. Those are the schools that I want to take my official visits to.”
Matthews runs the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds, the shuttle in 4.19 seconds. He also does 12 reps on the bench press, has a 260-pound bench press, a 360-pound squat and has a 32.2-inch vertical jump.
