Rutherford has familiarity with new destination

Texas State is moving up to the FBS soon as they will join the WAC conference. They recently hired former Texas A&M, Alabama and TCU coach Dennis Franchione as their new head coach, his second stint in San Marcos. With all the new developments it makes the Bobcats a pretty lucrative destination for recruits.
They recently added another commit to their class of 2011 in Brenham (Texas) Blinn College athlete Shaun Rutherford. The 5-foot-11, 192-pound playmaker, originally from Bay City, Texas, will have two years to play two for the Bobcats.

"I committed to Texas State," Rutherford said on Monday morning. "I did it two or three days ago. I'm already graduated from Blinn. I'm actually trying to get enrolled at Texas State right now. I'm here on campus already working on that. Classes start tomorrow."
Rutherford has numerous ties to the university with former high school teammates and coaches on staff. Franchione's son Brad was also the head coach at Blinn when Rutherford played there.
"I've been there before," he said. "I have a cousin (Da'Marcus Griggs) that plays there so I've been there a couple times. I've already seen the facilities so there wasn't too much that I haven't seen already.
"From knowing coach (Brad) Franchione and seeing the facilities, I knew wanted to go there. A couple of coaches that are on the staff now actually recruited me out of high school. One guy on the staff (Charlie Reeve) was my quarterback coach in high school so I know a couple of people there."
Rutherford has not yet had a chance to meet his new head coach but that will change soon.
"I haven't talked to Big Fran yet," he said, "but I've talked to a couple other coaches. I'm supposed to meet Big Fran today."
When he begins working out with the team, Rutherford will likely play a number of positions.
"They recruited me as an athlete," he said. "It's probably the same stuff I've been playing at Blinn. I'll be playing receiver, returning kicks and probably fill in at quarterback a little bit."
