Rutgers, VTech favorites for DB

Plainfield, N.J. defensive back James Williams is patiently awaiting the arrival of his first offer, but understands that he may need to prove himself on the field this fall before that happens.
While several schools have been recruiting the 5-foot-10, 176-pound Williams with varying degrees of intensity, two schools stand out on top of James’ wish list.

“Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Wisconsin, South Carolina, and Georgia are all in contact with me pretty regularly,” said Williams. “I’m sure whichever schools offered first would jump to the top of my list, but right now I like Rutgers and Virginia Tech the most. Those two along with Wisconsin are recruiting me the hardest.”
Williams has camped at both schools as well as Maryland this off-season and is trying to schedule an unofficial visit to see South Carolina. What does he like about his two favorites?
“Rutgers is close to home and they’re building a good thing there with Coach Schiano,” said Williams. “I like Virginia Tech because of their aggressive defensive style, the game atmosphere and the fact that they go to a bowl game every year.”
Last season Williams had over 60 tackles and five interceptions for Plainfield. All of the schools recruiting James want him to play cornerback except for Wisconsin who likes him as a free safety.
“I’d prefer to play corner if I had the option,” Williams admitted. “I like to play physical bump and run coverage. Man to man coverage is where it’s at for me.”
Williams currently plans to take his official visits to Tech, Rutgers, Wisconsin, South Carolina, and Georgia sometime during the season or shortly afterwards.
