Running back on way to first trip

On his way to Iowa right now is one of the top running backs in the Midwest. Before he left, Bolingbrook, Ill., standout A.J. Johnson discussed where he stood on the recruiting front.
Obviously the big question is where does he stand now? Is he still a soft commitment to Illinois, the school that he pledged to long ago? Or has he decided to open it up between Iowa and the Illini?

“I guess I’m going to say no,” Johnson said when asked if he was still committed to Illinois. “I don’t want to be listed as being committed. That’s because I’m still open between the two schools. I’m going to take my visits and see where I fit in best.”
So what does he hope to see this weekend at Iowa?
“I just want to see how the campus is,” Johnson said. “I also want to see how I fit in with the football and the academics. I know they are winners, but I want to see if for myself.”
Most fans are hoping that this decision will be made by Christmas – including Johnson – but he said he’s now pushed back his Illinois visit to January 10, after having an in-home visit with the Illini staff earlier this week.
“Coach Jackson was here,” Johnson said. “He’s a really neat guy. We talked about the official visit process and how things were going. He was honest with me, and I was honest with him.”
Johnson left for Iowa with his family after eating breakfast this morning.
