Roundtable: Wheres the circus

Each day leading up to National Signing Day, Rivals.com's analysts will convene at the Recruiting Roundtable and debate a current recruiting topic.

Today's question: There always will be a few bizarre moments on National Signing Day. Looking at the prospects in the 2013 class, who is most likely to bring the circus this year?

Mike Farrrell, National/Mid-Atlantic: I can see a circus surrounding Mackensie Alexander somehow. He's just hard to read and could decide not to sign that day at all. The other would be Deon Mix, who could also take things beyond signing day. Two years in a row we've had a player commit on national television and then not sign his letter; will we go for three? Not sure who that would be, but if it's anyone it could be Alexander.

Adam Friedman, Mid-Atlantic: In the Mid-Atlantic, Tashawn Bower's recruitment has been, to say the least, a circus. Bower looked to be in good shape when he made an early commitment to Auburn, but things took a turn for the worse when the Tigers had an underwhelming season and Gene Chizik and his staff were fired. Bower then made a series of unofficial visits to Rutgers and put together an itinerary that included official visits to Florida, Florida State and LSU and an unofficial visit to Auburn to see if he wants to stay committed to the Tigers. This last visit to Auburn is crucial for Gus Malzahn and his staff if they want to keep Bower, and there is no predicting where Bower will end up.

Woody Wommack, Southeast: This is always hard to predict; there are more than a few colorful characters in the 2013 class, but I'm not sure who will pull out all the tricks for his announcement. I never put it past the wide receivers to make a splash, so I'll put my money on Stacy Coley.

Kynon Codrington, Southeast: I'm not sure anything is a circus anymore. I'd say the most bizarre thing I've seen so far is the situation with the University of Miami and Denver Kirkland. Kirkland had Miami in his top three, but he wanted to wait until signing day to announce. The 'Canes chose to move on, telling Kirkland they didn't have room in this class for the Rivals250 prospect. What is strange is that the same night Miami dropped Kirkland it was at the home of five-star OLB Matthew Thomas, trying to find out where it stands. I have to believe Miami is on the outside looking in for Thomas and its reputation with one of the top programs in Miami-Dade will be altered going forward. Booker T. Washington has two athletes in the Rivals250 To Watch for 2014. Kirkland's signing day decision will be one to watch Wednesday.

Jason Howell, Southwest: Torrodney Prevot is the one who immediately jumps to my mind. He has been committed to USC, but it is hard to count out Texas A&M right now. Prevot plans to announce his decision on signing day, so a final-day switch could be in the works. Outside of the Rivals250, there is Lancaster (Texas) four-star Daeshon Hall, and no one has a really good read on what direction he will go on signing day. Hall is looking at Texas A&M and TCU but is committed to Washington. It could get very interesting.

Josh Helmholdt, Midwest: Chicago Simeon linebacker Reggie Spearman has had a unique recruiting ride, and it looks like the three-star will finish it with some fitting theatrics. Spearman has thus far committed to Indiana and Illinois during his recruitment, but he is not expected to sign with either school. He is currently on an official visit to Syracuse -- a school that offered less than two weeks ago. The odds-on favorite to land Spearman is Iowa, but the way this recruitment has gone I am not going to be surprised by anything.

Adam Gorney, West: I think Montravius Adams is a good pick. He has always had a unique perspective on the recruiting process, and with so many schools still involved in his recruitment there is definitely a chance he could do something to cause headlines. Let's not forget Robert Nkemdiche, though. If he has a lights-out visit to LSU this weekend, it would be a major shocker if he went with the Tigers instead of Ole Miss. I might not have the right names, but for sure some crazy stuff will go down on Wednesday.

Rob Cassidy, West: This is impossible to predict. Thus, the word "bizarre." If I have to pick somebody, though, I pick cornerback Mackensie Alexander. Alexander is a little eccentric, and I dig that. At least for me, players who march to their own beat are a joy to work with. As for his recruitment, Alexander has kept everyone guessing to a certain extent for some time. Those two factors make me think his signing day could carry a shenanigan or two. In a lot of ways, it's the perfect storm.
