When Armani Rogers took a recent unofficial visit to California, he fell in love with the place and the coaching staff and decided to end his recruitment just as it was getting started.
The three-star dual-threat quarterback from Los Angeles Hamilton said he has already developed a strong relationship with the coaching staff and he feels he can fit perfectly in the Golden Bears' passing offense.
"When I first went there I felt like I was at home," Rogers said. "I had great conversations with the coaches and everything. I talked to all the coaches especially coach (Tony) Franklin and I just felt it was the perfect situation for me.
"Jared Goff could be leaving for the NFL Draft so I'm planning to go up there and start as a freshman."
Rogers, a big, athletic 6-foot-5, 200-pound recruit, talks regularly with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tony Franklin, a big selling point to the Los Angeles Hamilton standout as he gets more and more comfortable with his decision.
"Coach Franklin and I talk almost twice a week usually," Rogers said. "We're building a connection outside of football. That was a big thing for me, being a part of a family, instead of just going there for football I want to be comfortable."
Since his commitment in late February, Rogers said his recruitment has actually picked up. Some Pac-12 schools and a powerhouse in the SEC have shown more interest but he's pleased with his decision at this point.
"Actually, it has gotten stronger," Rogers said. "More coaches are trying to talk to me now. Arizona State is talking to me more, UCLA and LSU is getting involved, too.
"I may take officials but I really think I'm going to sign with Cal."
