Rogers planning visits

Greg Rogers proved to be one of the more dominant defenders at the Las Vegas Rivals Camp Presented by Under Armour last month, using a combination of quickness and physicality to impress during one-on-one battles.
After landing early scholarship offers from UNLV and Utah, the 6-foot-3, 293-pound defensive tackle from Las Vegas Centennial made a local stop Saturday to check out what former Bishop Gorman head coach Tony Sanchez is building with the Rebels.

"Coach Sanchez is doing an amazing job and I've been highly impressed," said Rogers, one of Nevada's top prospects for the 2017 class. "I know they're trying to keep as many local kids as they can, which is something UNLV hasn't been able to do. With what coach Sanchez did in previous years at the high school level, this is a great opportunity for people to see what he can do at UNLV. That staff is bringing a lot of recruiting interest. People are really going to be paying attention out here."
The stop by UNLV was the first-ever unofficial visit for Rogers, who also has his sights set on trips to Arizona, UCLA, USC and Utah for this summer.
"I'm planning to compete at their camps," Rogers said. "I like to absorb a lot of the coaching at events to learn new things, learn techniques and to improve myself. Hopefully while I'm doing that I can open some eyes and turn that into some offers."
Rogers said he's been in contact with Arizona assistant David Lockwood, who dropped by to see him when he was a freshman. The Wildcats are childhood favorites.
"Coach Lockwood plans to see me again this spring and hopefully I can pick up an offer real soon," Rogers said. "I really like them. They're one of my top schools for sure."
Rogers has been receiving mail from the Los Angeles schools and intends to see those two up close this summer. He also expects to check out the Utah campus for the first time.
"I was out there last summer for a camp at Utah State, but we didn't get to visit Utah," Rogers said. "Utah is a great school. With them being my first offer, it's pretty amazing and a blessing. I was able to watch a lot of their games on TV last year and talking to their coaches, I get a sense that they're continuing to build something good there."
Rogers has also been hearing from Colorado, Nebraska, North Carolina and Washington. He was credited with 37 total tackles, including 10 for a loss, and 12 quarterback hurries in nine games as a sophomore last season.
