Rodgers commits to the Zips

Akron landed their quarterback of the future today in Pittsburgh (Pa.) Seton-LaSalle quarterback Matt Rodgers. The 6-foot-2, 193-pounder selected the Zips over offers from Bowling Green, Ohio, Toledo and serious interest from Boston College.
"He committed to Akron," Seton-LaSalle head coach Greg Perry said. "I know he really likes the coaching staff there with coach Brookhart and others. He also likes that they run a pro-style offense. That fits him well since he's a drop back passer.

"I think that along with all the success the MAC has had with quarterbacks certainly got his attention. He also wanted to be done with the recruiting process and in the end he liked what Akron offered. They have great facilities, are close to home and are just a good fit for him."
What kind of player are the Zips getting?
"Akron is getting a very heady football player with a 4.0 GPA," he said. "He's a good athlete that is also a starter on the basketball team and just turned 17.
"I think he has the ability to grow a lot bigger both physically and mentally. He is a very talented drop back quarterback that fits their scheme well. I think overall it's a win-win situation for Akron and Matt because they are getting a quality kid and he's headed to a good program."
