Rockwall Heath back shows versatility

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - On a talented Rockwall (Texas) Heath team, the feature back is Kendial Lawrence. One of Lawrence's strengths is his versatility and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, something he was able to display this weekend at the Texas State 7 on 7 Tournament. Lawrence and his teammates took the weekend very seriously as a chance to put their young program on the map.
"This is our first year coming to State so we're trying to make a name for ourselves," Lawrence said. "People don't really know about our school so we're trying to make a name for ourselves and show them that we can play too."

Entering only its fourth year of existence, the Heath program is building new traditions and Lawrence takes that seriously.
"We're the second senior class," he said. "We've been open for three years. This will be our fourth year. We qualified for state so that's one tradition that we started. We won a tournament so that's another tradition. We're just trying to keep it going."
Personally, Lawrence also has some goals, such as playing college football. Currently, he holds three offers from Kansas, Buffalo and Arizona while he continues to get interest from several other schools.
"I'm getting a lot of mail and people wanting me to come to camps like Iowa State and Louisville," he said. "I'll probably just visit some more colleges and see what I like."
One school Lawrence knows he likes is Arizona where he already has plans to visit officially in the fall.
"I'm going to Arizona when they play USC," he said. "I haven't talked to any other coaches about officials yet. I'm trying to visit to see who I like and I'll try to make my decision based on that."
