Robinson finds home at Florida despite citation

In the end, James Robinson found a home at Florida.

Robinson, a Rivals250 prospect, had not intended to sign a letter of intent on Signing Day. As early as Wednesday morning, a coach at Robinson’s high school said he did not expect his star wide receiver to announce a decision before the conclusion of National Signing Day. Things on that front changed quickly.

Florida head coach Jim McElwain alleviated any mystery with a tweet at roughly 3:30 pm ET.

The momentary hesitance seemed tied to the fact that Robinson was cited for marijuana possession during a recent recruiting visit to Ohio State. Robinson seemed Florida bound in the days before the incident hit the news. But after the short lull and a bit of Signing Day uncertainty, Florida accepted Robinson’s commitment in the late afternoon.

Robinson tweeted a public apology following the incident, which took place in Columbus on Jan 21.

Florida also accepted the commitment of running back Adarius Lemons, who was dismissed from his school during his senior season, on Wednesday.

Robinson and Lemons are both four-star prospects and are expected to compete for early playing time in Gainesville.
