Roberts sticking with NC State for now

Back in August, three-star offensive center Desmond Roberts committed to the Wolfpack. The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder was surprised by the news of Chuck Amato's firing on Sunday. How did that affect the Gaston (N.C.) Northampton West prospect's commitment?
"I wasn't expecting him to get fired this year," he said. "He had been to a couple bowl games and just because of two bad seasons in a row, that's a little disappointing."

With the news, Roberts now has to reconsider his recruitment.
"I committed to NC State because I fell in love with the coaches," he said. "I don't know who the next coach is and if they'll keep the assistants or not. Right now I'm going to wait and see to find out what happens there. I am still committed, but I'm not closing the door to looking around.
"I have continued to receive interest from Penn State and Maryland throughout the process. I plan to check out my other options to see what I have out there. If the coaches stay at NC State, I'll probably stay there with them. A lot will depend on the head coach still too though."
Currently the No. 11 offensive center in the country is sticking by his commitment for now. What does he like about North Carolina State?
"The coaches there have always been good to me and I like that it's not too far away from home," he said. "They are also a school that has my major, engineering. That is a main consideration for me and why I looked at NC State."
Roberts has helped Northampton West to a 13-0 season and a shot at the eastern region championship this week.
"Our team did really great this year and won our conference," he said. "A lot of people didn't think we were that good, but we came out and performed. It means a lot to me to go out like this in my last year. We're a small time school that has never come this far before and this is just great.
"As for me, I did pretty well. I think I improved a lot along the line in my drive blocking and pass protection."
