Roberts discusses NC State commitment

Three-star offensive center Desmond Roberts made the trip to Raleigh today with his mom to check out North Carolina State. On his visit, the 6-foot-5, 265-pounder out of Gaston (N.C.) Northampton West committed to the coaching staff.
"I was debating whether I'd commit on the spot. I mainly was going to give my mom a feel of what it's like up there," he said. "I later went and talked to coach Amato and Cignetti and told them I was committing. They were both really happy. Coach Cignetti was kind of jittery with excitement and shook my hand. Then Chuck Amato told me that he was glad to have me be apart of the squad and was happy for me."

One coach really connected with the No. 23 player in North Carolina.
"I really like coach Pat Meyer," he said. "I got very attached to him and everything about him is good. He likes cars like me and we have a lot in common. I like that because I can talk to and identify with him."
In the end, it was only natural for Roberts to commit to the Wolfpack.
"I kind of wanted to go there the whole time," he said. "I think they are such a great school and I'm ready to be there next fall. The coaches feel I can compete right away for the center job because their starter is graduating and the backup is a guard with little experience.
"This season, I'm going to do what I can to compete for the job. I really want to work on my strength and stay in the weight room as much as possible to be ready. I also want to increase my speed and work on everything. I know every aspect of my game needs improvement."
