Position: Outside Linebacker
Size and Speed: Rivera is 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. He has been clocked at 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Statistics: Rivera recorded a team leading 115 tackles as a junior.
Honors: Rivera was named first-team all-Sunflower league, all-Johnson County and second-team All-metro.
Favorite Schools: Rivera is receiving recruiting attention from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas State and UCLA.
Skinny: “Mike has yet to receive any scholarship offers,” Northwest coach Scott Diebold said. “That is the part of all of this that really surprises me. I’m sure those will start after he makes his summer camps.”
Those summer camps will include three one-day sessions being held in Kansas City by Kansas, Missouri and Kansas Ste.
“He hasn’t decided to go to a week long one, but I would imagine he will.”
Diebold knows whatever school gets Rivera will be landing a good player.
“He’ll make someone happy. He has always worked hard for us. He has the tools you need to succeed. He has the speed and instinct you need to play. He’s always intense. He really enjoys the physical nature of the game, that isn’t something you find too often.”
While Diebold believes the offers will come for his standout, he thinks schools better do it sooner rather than later.
“If a school does offer early and it is a good fit, he could go ahead and make a commitment. They might miss out on something if they wait too long. I don’t think he’s so set on one particular school that he will wait around for them.”
