Rivals250 WR Malik Heath eyeing official visit to Nebraska

The Latest: Class of 2018 Rivals250 wide receiver Malik Heath has been committed to Mississippi State for a nearly a year and because of his commitment status as well some injuries that kept him off the camp series, he's almost a forgotten name in terms of the conversation for the nation's top wideouts. But after lighting up the Varsity Preps Elite Camp earlier this month, it's clear he belongs in that discussion. The nation's top programs certainly haven't forgotten about him and Heath said Nebraska is one of several programs staying in nearly constant contact. Rivals.com caught up with Heath to talk recruiting as well as his plans for the rest of the summer.

In His Words: “My commitment to Mississippi State is very strong right now but I’m still keeping my options open because there are just a lot of opportunities and I want to find the best opportunity to where I can make it the league. I’ve been committed for almost a year so we have that long bond but they know I want to look around and make sure they're the best fit for me.”

On other programs still recruiting him: “LSU, Oklahoma, Florida State, it’s so many schools that are at me so hard, Nebraska, Ole Miss and a bunch of others."

On the interest from Nebraska: "Nebraska is getting a lot of recruits right now so I gotta talk to my momma and see what she thinks and take a look at if I can touch the field early. I'm not against redshirting but I would like to play right away if there's an opportunity."

On his relationship with the coaches: “I’ve been talking to the wide receivers coach, Coach Williams. It’s cool. It’s just an exciting guy. He’s always smiling, we’re always talking. He’s always calling me or texting me, showing me videos of routes and stuff like that. That’s how I got my routes sharper, by learning from him. I’ve enjoyed building that relationship.”

On plans to visit Lincoln: “It’s very hard right now because my momma is in the hospital right now so I don’t know how I’m going to get up there. I’m thinking about going up there for an official and I’ve talked to them about it but I haven’t decided yet."

On other visits this summer: "I've been to LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Alabama and a few others, I've been busy."

On visits he wants to take by the end of the summer: "I want to take a visit to Florida and Florida State. I want to take my mom on the Florida visit so when she gets well I’m going to take her down there."

Rivals Reaction: It's going to be tough for anyone to pull Heath out of the state of Mississippi but Nebraska is making quite the effort. The fact that the Huskers are mentioned as a potential official visit shows just how much progress the school has made in its national recruiting efforts. Heath will likely make Bulldogs sweat over the next few months and it will be worth watching when and where he takes his official visits.
