The Hokies addressed a major need on Sunday by adding a commitment from Rivals250 wide receiver Darryle Simmons. The Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph's star is a bigger receiver that Virginia Tech has needed for a while.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

"They're really a family-oriented team and they really paid attention to my parents," Simmons said. "They really helped me make this decision. I love to play football and want to compete for a national championship at Virginia Tech.

"I see the team has a really good defense and a really good offense," he said. "Their one need is at receiver and I could fill that.

"The coaches haven't told me I would start but I will have a chance to compete for a spot on," said Simmons. "They have some of the best players in one of the best conferences with some of the best coaches. It's a big opportunity that I won't let go to waste.

"Coach Brian Mitchell recruited me," he said. "He is the defensive backs coach and competes against receivers every day. He was telling me that they have a need at receiver for a player with my skillset and I would be dangerous in that offense.

"I think I'll be one of the best recruiters on the staff," Simmons said. "I have a lot of relationships with a lot of players and I will be trying to add to the class. I'm going after everybody."

RIVALS' REACTION

Virginia Tech has lacked size in their receiver corps over the last few years so Simmons is a very important addition for Justin Fuente's offense. He has a huge catch radius and is an effective receiver over the middle and down the field. Simmons isn't afraid to take on defensive backs and his ability to consistently get open and create separation will add a new facet to the Hokies offense.
