Rivals250 WR Armani Winfield picks Baylor

One of the nation's most sought-after pass-catchers delivered fireworks to cap another riveting signing day in the Lone Star State.

Armani Winfield, the nation's No. 28-ranked wide receiver, committed to Baylor in a late-winding decision that also featured Texas and Michigan State.

The Rivals250 wide receiver has been amongst Texas' most productive pass-catchers and a known commodity in a deep 2022 class since his freshman season. Winfield is the nation's No. 191 overall player and No. 32 overall in-state. He joins fellow Dallas Metroplex receiver Jordan Nabors in the Bears' 2022 haul.

MARGIN HOOKS ON WINFIELD

On what Baylor is getting in Winfield: "They're getting a complete athlete, a big-bodied kid at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. He's smooth, he's a technician and he has deceptive speed. When you look at the film, he has great acceleration and he's just smooth like J. Michael Sturdivant (Cal). He has a high motor, high ceiling and he's not even close to how good as he'll end up."

On Baylor's recruitment: "They stayed consistent with them, especially the communication because that was one of the main things with Armani. They were open and they were honest with him. They weren't looking for depth; they are looking for him to come in and make a splash. What they've seen from him on the field is why they expect him to make a difference."

On his relationship with staff: "He just likes their vibe with all of the coaches, with the offense and seeing them. They weren't looking for depth; they are looking for him to come in and make a splash. What they've seen from him on the field is why they expect him to make a difference."

On Winfield's decision: "He's handled the situation well and he's had to overcome. He's had injuries, a knee injury in the offseason, so to see him come back to see where it has been immaculate. The way he's worked ... he recognized that there were doubters and now you recognize he is who you thought he was. He's done that. I commend him for that and his personality. He's charismatic, highly intelligent with a high football IQ. Seeing him grow up since the eighth grade and seeing the things he's gone through and overcome, I'm just happy and excited."

RIVALS REACTION

Winfield piled up a team-leading 66 receptions for 1,006 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior, averaging better than 15 yards per catch. He’s a polished receiver that can stretch the field and also operate well outside the numbers.

Winfield clocked a 23.52-second 200-meter as a junior and it’s been evident as he flashes as a vertical threat downfield or breaks away from a crowd of defenders. At 6-foot-3 and just shy of 200 pounds, Winfield is a sizable target for quarterbacks and different to corral in space.

An impactful player for the span of his prep career at Lewisville, Winfield has been a consistent top performer and among the best pass-catchers in the state. He possesses a high floor with size, downfield speed and playmaking ability after the catch. He's expected to find his way into the receiver rotation at Baylor as early as next fall.
