Tennessee made a big splash on Saturday night by landing the commitment of Rivals250 talent Boo Carter, who chose the Volunteers over a final three that also included Michigan and Colorado.

"I'm picking Tennessee," Carter told Rivals.com of his decision. "They know how to put their players in the best position to win. Tennessee is close to home for me, so my family, friends, and fans can just come up an hour-and-a-half to watch me play."

Before announcing his decision on social media, Carter called Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and gave him the good news first.

"Coach Heupel was really pumped," Carter noted. "He's really excited for me to come up in January. He's excited to get me up there early so I can go ahead experience up there, get to know the plays, and try to get that starting position."

While listed as a wide receiver, the four-star talent out of Chattanooga (Tenn.) Bradley Central is a big-time playmaker on both sides of the ball. The Volunteers' staff plan to use Carter primarily in the secondary, but will also have plays dialed up for him on offense as well.

"Tennessee is planning to put me on both sides of the field of the ball in college," Carter explained. "Defense will be my main position, but I'm also going to get around six plays designed for me on offense also."

Tennessee secondaries coach Willie Martinez has been Carter's primary recruiting contact throughout his recruiting process, which dates back to his freshman year.

"I got my first offer from Coach Martinez when I was a freshman. I was very blessed for him to do that."

"He likes that I'm a dawg on the football field. He likes how I can see the ball in the secondary and how I communicate on defense."

With Carter in the fold, Tennessee has now added their fourth Rivals250 prospect and seventh four-star talent to their 2024 recruiting class.

In addition, the Vols also land the No. 1 player in the state that should become an influential recruiter for Chattanooga's growing talent pool that is already on Tennessee's radar, Cameron Sparks and Martels Carter, Jr are two prospects in the 2025 class that come to mind.
