A 2018 prospect, Camron Davis’ commitment to Oregon State came prior to the start of his junior season. And, maybe more importantly, took place without ever seeing the program’s Corvallis-based campus. It’s part of why the four-star running back’s Monday decision to back away from his pledge and re-open his recruitment didn’t exactly create shockwaves.

Some of the reasons behind his broken commitment are obvious, sure, but Davis also says the factors are many. This, it appears, was no simple decision.

“It’s nothing against the Beavers,” Davis said. “I just feel like I should worry about my education then worry about college. I’m still going to get up there to check out Oregon State, but right now I’m going to remain humble and hungry, and get better every day.”

And so Davis, who holds multiple major scholarship offers will, in a way, move on from Oregon State. He insists the Beavers remain in the thick of his recruitment and that the school will get serious consideration moving forward. It’s just that other program are now heavily in the mix.

“Oregon State is still up there,” Davis said. “So is Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisville, UCF, FAU and even Michigan State.”

A four-star prospect, Davis is the No. 10 running back and the No. 167 overall prospect in the class of 2018. He attends Miami’s Carol City High School.

RIVALS' REACTION

The odds were stacked against Davis’ Oregon State commitment standing. The distance was an issue, as was the sight-unseen nature of the pledge. The fact that the Beavers have limped out of the gate this season probably didn’t help things. Oregon State is still very much in the hunt, but it seems more likely that Davis will remain in the Southeast for college.
