Malik Hornsby turned heads when he opted to commit to North Carolina days removed from his official visit to Chapel Hill. Now, he's pressed the reset button on his recruitment.

The Rivals250 dual-threat backed off his verbal pledge to the Tar Heels on Tuesday. The commitment was short-lived, lasting just about a month's time.

Former Texas A&M assistant Tim Brewster led the push for Hornsby back when he was an assistant under Jimbo Fisher and followed suit when he took a position on Mack Brown's staff at North Carolina. Hornsby took his first official visit to North Carolina -- because of Brewster -- and made a decision shortly after arriving back home in Houston.

At the time of his commitment, Hornsby was also in regular contact with SMU, Oregon, Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M. SMU, Alabama and Texas A&M are all looking for a quarterback to add to its 2020 class. Don't count on the Tar Heels and Brewster throwing in the towel on the four-star quarterback either
