"I've been keeping in contact with Coach Johnson," he said. "I called him up on Wednesday and he told me he had some special news for me and then told me he was offering.
"They talked about whether it was for offense or defense, joking around and they offered me for offense."
Smith is impressed by the offer.
"That's big," he said. "That's a school that is known for its tradition, the football team, coaching staff and Joe Paterno."
Meanwhile, what about Pittsburgh?
"I don't know as much about them," he said. "I may try to visit there this weekend though. I have the premier showcase on Saturday and they have a junior day on Sunday."
Smith confirmed plans to head to Virginia Tech on the 27th and Virginia on the 28th for junior days next weekend as well.
