Rivals250 OL/DL Verdis Brown says FSU commitment: "best decision I've made"

The Latest: When Verdis Brown committed to Florida State last month the move came as a surprise to many in the recruiting world. Several programs felt like they had a good shot at Brown but after a visit to campus the 6-foot-4, 290-pound prospect fell in love with the Noles and made his commitment on the spot. So how have things been going since? Rivals.com caught up with Brown to talk about his commitment as well as his time at IMG Academy.

In His Words: "It’s been the best decision I’ve made. The fans at Florida State are crazy. It’s just been a lot coming at me on Twitter, my twitter has been blowing up but I’ve been enjoying it. I already feel like part of the family.”

On what sealed the deal: "The people. It doesn’t matter who you are, they treat you the same and that’s something you have to have. Sometimes you go to schools on visits and they might put on a show for you but you can feel who is being real with you but at Florida State I felt like they were being real and that went a long way toward helping me feel like I made the right decision.”

On how much his move to Florida played into his decision: “I liked Florida State back at home but I didn’t think I would be going there until I moved down here and got a chance to see the school and feel the coaches out. It’s amazing. I feel in love with it. It was love at first sight.”

On why he transferred to IMG: "Chicago isn’t necessarily the greatest place, so I decided just to come down here to focus on school and football and put all distractions aside and just become a better person by myself.”

Rivals Reaction: Brown is a classic case of a prospect coming to IMG for high school and getting a chance to take a longer look at a school in the Sunshine State. The Florida State coaches did a great job of not only getting him on campus but selling him on his future in Tallahassee. It will be interesting to see if he takes other visit this fall, but it's clear he's very happy as an FSU commit.
