After a slow start to his recruitment, West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West class of 2014 running back Mikel Horton has added several new offers in the last month. One of those offers stood out more than the others.
"Coach [Vince] Marrow was actually going to offer me when he was at Nebraska, so when he went to UK for that job opportunity he gave me an offer," Horton said. "I went down there, met Coach [Mark] Stoops and the people were great. They are my No. 1 school right now."
Horton visited Kentucky in mid-January along with other offered class of 2014 recruits and several of the Wildcat's top remaining targets in the class of 2013.
"They wanted me to come down and see how it was," Horton said. "Some of my close friends I had met at summer camps were all down there. It was just a day for people with offers and commits to bond and meet the coaches."
The offer from Kentucky was followed by ones from Toledo and Bowling Green in the last couple weeks, bringing his total to five. Indiana and Kent State had offered the four-star back earlier in his recruitment.
Although he holds five offers and lists a leader, Horton still has plenty he wants to see in his recruitment before he makes his college selection.
"Alabama wants me to come down on [February] 22nd," Horton said. "They had seen my film and were very interested. They want me to come down and see the facilities, so hopefully I will get an offer from them also.
"I have Florida State on me pretty hard and Michigan State also. I'll know whether I have an offer from Michigan State either this week or the following week. Urban Meyer came to my school a couple days ago and I appreciated that so I am going to check out Ohio State pretty soon."
A return trip to Kentucky is being planned for this coming weekend. Horton also expects to make visits to Indiana and Michigan State later this month.
