Decision day is coming for defensive end Jayson Oweh. The Rivals250 prospect out of Blairstown (N.J.) Blairs Academy is set to commit to either Penn State or Ohio State at the Under Armour All-America Game next week.
IN HIS OWN WORDS…
“I’m just waiting for my announcement at the Under Armour Game,” Oweh said. “Coach Urban, coach Franklin, coach Spencer, coach Johnson and everybody have been trying to get in touch with me. I did not sign a letter of intent during the early signing period.
“At Penn State I could play early and I’d be a great fit there,” he said. “They have Micah coming onboard so he and I would be a great duo. Penn State is close to home and I know a lot of people there. That was kind of their pitch.
“The Ohio State coaches were talking a lot about development because of coach Johnson and the opportunities available to me there because of their platform there,” said Oweh. “They talked a lot about life after football too. I have an opportunity to be under a big spotlight early in my career. I’d have a chance to play early too because a lot of people are leaving. Bosa and Chase have reached out a lot.”
On his relationship with Micah Parsons and Tyreke Smith: “We didn’t really have a relationship earlier in our recruitments,” he said. “I was just always grouped with them during visits but recently I’ve built a nice relationship with Micah. I’ve always been cool with Tyreke. Micah and I have been talking more about me possibly going to Penn State recently. Talking with both of them has helped me work through my recruitment.”
RIVALS’ REACTION…
Oweh’s decision will be one of the focuses during this all-star game season. Penn State and Ohio State each have a lot going for them but Oweh keeps his cards close to his vest and doesn’t give much away. Both schools have a need at his position and his relationships at both schools are strong. It’s hard to say which way Oweh is leaning but whichever team lands his commitment will be getting a high ceiling prospect with a ton of natural ability that is just scratching the surface of his potential.
