Rivals250 DB flips to Oregon

In just four days the Oregon Ducks will square off with Ohio State for the college football national championship, but that hasn't stopped the Ducks coaches from working hard on the recruiting trail. On Thursday night the Ducks received a verbal commitment from four-star Nashville (Tenn.) Overton defensive back Ugo Amadi as he flipped his commitment from LSU and now vows to shut down his recruiting process.

"I knew in my mind it was the school I wanted to go as soon as they showed interest," Amadi said. "It really came from nowhere, I got the follow on twitter and we started communicating. I told them I was interested, and once they saw my film they said I was perfect for my scheme and I decided to commit."
Oregon only got involved with Amadi in the last week, after then LSU defensive coordinator and Amadi's primary recruiter John Chavis left the Tigers for the same position at Texas A&M. The Aggies offered Amadi earlier in the week, but when Oregon defensive backs coach John Neal officially extended an offer to Amadi on Thursday, he jumped on the chance to join the Ducks.
"With Coach Chavis leaving LSU I wasn't sure how that was gong to work out but when Oregon called and said they were interested and they wanted me I jumped at the opportunity," Amadi said.
The 5-foot-9, 182-pound Amadi is similar in size to defensive backs that have thrived at Oregon in the past, including 2014 first team All-American Ifo Ekpre-Olomu. Coming out of high school in 2011, Ekpre-Olomu was 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds and ranked No. 173 in the Rivals250, Amadi currently sits at No. 204.
"I've watched him play and because of his size he has to have perfect technique and that's why he's one of the best," Amadi said. "I can tell he's received great coaching and Coach Neal told me that I remind him a lot of Ifo but at the same time he wants me to make my own name for myself."
Amadi was expected to enroll at LSU this month, but will now enroll at Oregon in March. He plans to take his official visit to Oregon Jan. 23 and has no plans to visit other schools.
"This is it for me, that's why I didn't waste time making the decision," said Amadi, who was also committed to Ole Miss for most of 2014. "I'm going to take my official visit so I can see it in person and then I'll be up there for school in March."
Amadi credited Oregon defensive backs coach John Neal with making a clear, concise pitch on why he should leave SEC country for the Pac-12.
"Coach Neal told me he's not going anywhere and I can trust that he will be my coach," Amadi said. "With his track record and the success that they've had it was just too much to pass up."
Amadi said his parents were thrilled with the decision, even if it means going far from home for school.
"They are really proud of me and they're happy I'm going to a great football program that also has great academics," Amadi said. "We all view this as a blessing and a chance to go be a part of something special."
