Rivals250 ATH wants to be safety

Rivals250 athlete Davon Morgan came out of the the May evaluation period with just two offers. Plenty of other schools are clamoring to offer the prospect to play quarterback, but the 6-foot-0, 184-pounder wants to make his living in the defensive backfield.
"Surprisingly not a whole lot has been going on with Davon," Varina coach Blanda Wolfe said. "He still has just two official offers from Michigan and Virginia Tech. There are a lot of other smaller schools that have said they will offer him if he wants to play quarterback including Wake Forest and Connecticut, but he has told me he wants to be a safety because he thinks he has a better shot at making it to the next level that way."

The Richmond (Va.) Varina prospect continues to maintain that Virginia Tech and Michigan are his leaders.
"All he's saying to me is those are the teams that have offered me and they are the only two I can look at right now," he stated. "He likes Michigan of course because Brandon Minor is going there and through Brandon he's gotten a lot of information about them. Meanwhile, he knows a lot of players at Virginia Tech and has visited there quite a bit.
"I'd think his decision definitely could come down to those two schools, but there are a few others showing interest. Florida's Billy Gonzales has been recruiting him pretty heavily and then Tennessee is very interested as well."
With a potential change of position for Morgan, what makes him stand out at safety?
"I can see him being a rover/safety type of guy," he said. "He actually reminds me a lot of Anthony Poindexter in high school because he loves to hit and always knows what to do. He is a tremendous leader out there that demands so much from everybody around him. He actually is like a coach on the field because he tells teammates where to be. Davon of course studies so much film since he's a quarterback and that allows him to understand what it takes to be in coverage. He sees the field as a quarterback and knows how to break down plays."
The four-star prospect accounted for over 1,900 yards and 27 touchdowns on offense last season. He added 19 tackles and nine interceptions on defense on his way to earning all-district and all-region honors.
