Rivals100 WR Brennan Eagles tightens up list after spring visits

Not long after he was off campus in Austin, Brennan Eagles released his top-ten list of schools on Sunday. The Longhorns were among the finalists - his visit over the weekend confirmed what he had hoped to see and hear prior to including Texas in that group.

Joining Texas are two other schools that he made recent appearances at in Oklahoma and TCU. Conspicuously missing from the bunch was Texas A&M, who only offered the high four-star wide receiver a week ago, despite the fact that Eagles plays for an Alief Taylor team that’s less than 100 miles away from Kyle Field.

“They came in late in the game, I wasn’t tripping over it, but that did play a role in my recruiting process,” he said. “It was like all these other schools that offered me had shown interest and A&M comes last-minute. I’m just always going to have that in the back of my head.”

Other relatively recent offers like Florida, Florida State, and LSU made the cut, but it’s clear that he expected the Aggies to show some more attention earlier in the process.

Eagles has no immediate plans to see any other schools just yet, but said that he made the most out of his stops in Fort Worth and Norman - and he planned on making a return trip to Austin.

IN HIS WORDS

On his Texas visit

“Everybody is real close together here,” he said. “[Tom Herman] brought the best people here from U of H like (assistant director of player personnel) Bryan Carrington, I have a great relationship with him. That guy’s tight, and I’ll be back here over spring break.”

On his Oklahoma visit

“It was nice, I had a great visit,” he said. “I talked to Coach (Dennis) Simmons, the offensive coordinator, Coach (Bob) Stoops, everyone showed me around. Obo [Ogbonnia Okoronkwo], the linebacker that went to my school, showed me around a little bit. Everything feels like home there.”

“It matched up to my expectations,” he added. “I can’t wait till they’re done with the new project they’re working on with the new locker and stuff and just see all the facilities once they’re done.”

On his TCU visit

“It was a very nice trip, they showed me a lot of love,” he said. “It wasn’t really like a junior day because it was more like an individual day for me. When I was there they just focused on me, it wasn’t like there were all these other student athletes there too.”

“When I first got there everybody was just excited to see me,” he said. “I had a good conversation with Coach (Gary) Patterson when we got a chance to talk.”

RIVALS REACTION

The obvious conclusion for the time being is that the schools he has had the chance to visit recently are the ones with the early shot for a commitment. A few weeks ago, he seemed very intrigued by Oklahoma, and the reviews from TCU’s last junior day weekend have been positive from its visitors. If the out-of-state programs can weather the early storm of his familiarity with the more local teams, Eagles will continue to be a widely discussed name during the summer months.
