When Class of 2019 Rivals100 quarterback Grant Gunnell committed to Texas A&M last year, he did so after an in-depth process that saw him take visits to several programs all over the country. His level of comfort with the Aggies staff and the chance to stay close to home both played a factor.

But after the Aggies fired coach Kevin Sumlin, Gunnell finds himself back in the same position he was as an uncommitted prospect, getting to know the new coaches in College Station. So far, things are going well, especially with new Texas A&M offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey.

"I like Coach Dickey a lot," Gunnell said. "He had Paxton Lynch at Memphis and turned him into a first round pick and he had Riley Ferguson this year, who is probably going to get drafted, too. That's two top quarterbacks back-to-back."

With a new staff in place the Aggies offense is likely to look different in 2018 and Gunnell said he's already had discussions with Dickey about how he will fit.

"Dickey said that he wants to coach me and he thinks I can be a similar player to Paxton Lynch with the way I would fit into their offense," Gunnell said. "I know they have offered a few dual-threats so that's something I need to talk to Coach Fisher about."

Gunnell said he will continue to have conversations with the new Aggies coaches while also taking another look around at schools this offseason.

"I really want to talk to the coaches before I do anything serious," he said. "I probably will taking official visits elsewhere but I haven't thought about where yet."

One school that appears like they will continue to push for Gunnell is LSU. The Tigers have kept in regular contact and didn't give up when Gunnell committed to the Aggies.

"Coach O texts my parents a lot and he texts me a lot, too." Gunnell said. "So I'm just keeping in contact with them. I liked Coach Canada a lot so I need to see how things go with their offense, too."
