Rivals100 TE Brock Wright still enthusiastic over Notre Dame commitment

Notre Dame’s struggles this season haven’t deterred Brock Wright from maintaining his commitment to the Irish.

The four-star Rivals100 tight end said on Friday night after his team’s 35-17 win against Cypress Woods that even though Notre Dame’s 2016 campaign hasn’t been great, he’s still optimistic about his future with the program.

“You have good seasons and you have bad seasons,” he said. “It’s just going to make us hungrier in the offseason to get better and perform well next season.”

In the meantime, things are going much smoother for his Cy-Fair team this season. Friday night’s victory moved his team to 6-2 on the season and second place in the district. Wright was a key player in the win, catching five passes and scoring a touchdown.

“Things are going real well,” he said. “The team’s starting to gel - things have been real nice and we’re getting better every game so hopefully we can finish the regular season strong and go into the playoffs with the right mindset.”

IN HIS WORDS

On his last trip to South Bend, when Notre Dame hosted Michigan State

“It was amazing - it was special,” he said. “I’m so glad I could make it up there with my dad, it was the coolest game I’ve ever been to, there’s just so much tradition - it’s a mazing up there.”

On the play of quarterback DeShone Kizer

“He’s phenomenal and you can tell he’s a good leader as well as a player,” he said. “So I’m excited to possibly be a teammate with him next year.”

On his efforts to recruit LSU commit Austin Deculus to Notre Dame after Les Miles’ dismissal

“I talked to Austin a little bit about it,” he said. “But Austin is going to go where it’s best for him, so that’s how we feel about that.”

RIVALS REACTION

Wright answers questions surrounding his commitment as if he knows what they are before they’re asked. At this point, it doesn’t seem as though the Irish will meet the goals the team likely had in the preseason, but Wright refuses the implication that might affect his loyalty. Regardless of Brian Kelly’s status as head coach going forward, Wright makes it clear he’s committed to the school, not necessarily the coach.

“I’ve always been 100-percent committed,” he said. “It’s my dream school. I’m not going to go anywhere else.”

Wright is planning on making his official visit to South Bend for this year’s ECHOES Awards, which traditionally are held in mid-December.
