Rivals100 safety has a top two

When it comes to blue-chip safety prospects, not many are bluer than Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln standout Pat Watkins.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Rivals100 selection is one of the top hitters in the entire nation and has the coverage ability that you need in a ball-hawking safety. So, it’s easy to see why his scholarship offer list is about a mile long.

But at this point, his list of leaders isn’t.
“I’d say that Miami and Georgia are my top two teams,” Watkins said. “I’d probably put Florida State No. 3 and then I’m also going to visit USC for sure, too.”
Some might think it’s interesting that FSU – the hometown school – is sitting in the third slot, instead of the catbird seat. But Watkins does have an explanation.
“I grew up loving Miami,” Watkins, who has a 250-pound bench-press, said. “It’s just a thing that I’ve always had. And then there is Georgia. My best friend is Mike Gilliam, and he’s up there at Georgia. He and I are pretty tight.”
What about FSU?
“I like Florida State,” he said. “I think I could contribute there pretty early, but I still like Miami and Georgia a little bit better right now.
What about USC?
“I’m definitely going to visit them,” Watkins said. “I promised the coaches that I would.”
