2019 Rivals100 offensive lineman Kenyon Green had already been contemplating a decision to step back from his commitment to LSU. After the Tigers former offensive line coach, Jeff Grimes, accepted a position as BYU’s new offensive coordinator, it was all the more clear to him that he needed to re-evaluate his options.

LSU was Green’s first offer following his sophomore season, and he wasted no time in choosing to commit to the Tigers. Since then, other top programs haven’t shied away from recruiting and offering him, but he maintained his commitment and still holds LSU in high regard.

“I’m just heading into my senior year and I want to make sure that I’m making the right decision,” he said. “I just want to open things up and see what’s out there. My final decision is one that can change my life.”

Green learned of Grimes’ move to BYU directly from LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, who assured him that new offensive line coach, James Cregg is a capable replacement. Still, Green and his family feel as though if he is to build a new relationship with Cregg, that other programs that have been in the picture since before the fall should also have their chance to further their bond with him as well.

“LSU still has an opportunity,” he said. “They have been treating me just the same as the other coaches that have been recruiting me. I’m not making this decision because of anything that they did.”

The sentiment from both Green and his father is one of affection for Orgeron. However, after former general manager Austin Thomas recently resigned from the program - Green’s first point of contact at LSU - in addition to Grimes’ move to Provo, the timing seemed right to reconsider some options.

“We hope to see things come full-circle and we never burn bridges,” Green’s father, Henry, said. “Kenyon is a humble kid and he wanted to do right by Coach Orgeron and tell him personally what he was feeling.”

In the meantime, Green should see a pretty swift uptick in interest, particularly from the likes of Oklahoma, TCU and Texas, among others. LSU will remain in the hunt as well, but the spring should give way to him taking the opportunity to get a closer look at several interested programs.
