Scouting report: Brandt is an interesting prospect who could grow into a straight defensive end. Right now, he's athletic and mobile enough to contribute at outside linebacker as well. During the season, Brandt's team does not play high-level competition, so it's difficult to evaluate him. In camps, though, Brandt has dominated numerous times because of his athletic ability, strength and intelligence. Whether it's at defensive end or linebacker in the future, Brandt has the stuff to be something special.
Latest: Brandt has been playing basketball, so he has not attended any camps or 7-on-7 events this off-season.
Leaders: Committed to UCLA
23WR
DeKaylin Metcalf
Oxford, Miss.
Scouting report: Metcalf stands 6-foot-2, 197 pounds, so jamming him at the line is a tall order. His speed is above average for a wide receiver and he has quite a knack for the acrobatic catch. His body control and hands are the most impressive part of his game.
Latest: Metcalf has been committed to Ole Miss for nearly two years.
Leaders: Committed to Ole Miss
24WR
Dredrick Snelson
Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage
Scouting report: Snelson boasts a thick build at 5-11, 194 and is as physical a receiver as there is in the class. He's not particularly long, but his speed and hands help make up for average height. A veteran of the camp circuit, Snelson has bested some of the best defensive backs in the country. He was a top performer at the recent Rivals Camp Series: Miami.
Latest: Alabama and Auburn offered Snelson in back-to-back days recently and both seem to be serious players in his recruitment. That said, dragging the receiver out of state won't be easy. Snelson is a one-time Miami commit and is still considering the Hurricanes to some extent.
Way-too-early prediction: Ohio State
25QB
K.J. Costello
Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic
Scouting report: There might not be a quarterback in this class who has a stronger arm, who can rip it all over the field and fire passes into tight windows. He has also shown in the last few months excellent touch when it's needed, especially on his deep passes. There were times during his junior season where he overthrew, but his arm strength is there, he'll sit in the pocket even with defenders coming right at him and he can make every throw in the book.
Latest: Costello was the top overall performer on the first day of the Las Vegas Pylon 7v7. He missed the Rivals Quarterback Challenge in Las Vegas, but is expected at the RCS: Los Angeles in May.
Leaders: USC and Stanford are basically the top two for Costello, with Michigan still hanging on. The four-star quarterback could make his decision at any time.
Way-too-early prediction: USC
26OG
Patrick Hudson
Silsbee, Texas
Scouting report: Hudson stands 6-5, weighs 330 pounds and carries a mean streak. He has big strong hands, a powerful punch, and he maintains strong leverage.
Latest: Hudson has been committed to Baylor, but that has not kept other schools from trying to bend his ear. Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU are a few programs that have kept in touch.
Leaders: Committed to Baylor
27QB
Austin Kendall
Waxhaw (N.C.) Cuthbertson
Scouting report: There is a lot to like about Kendall's game. He throws a very accurate ball, which is a credit to his very clean throwing mechanics and footwork. Kendall has the arm strength to make all the throws and he understands how to put touch on the ball. He has a good understanding of the game and knows how to read defenses really well.
Latest: Kendall decommitted from Tennessee on March 10, which was not a surprise given the Vols' contiued recruitment of other quarterbacks. Kentucky fans should be very excited because the Wildcats are the prohibitive favorite. Kendall's brother is on the team and they just visited him a few weeks ago. Auburn and Florida are two other teams that have been in the mix and there is definitely some interest in Michigan. Look for Kendall to set up some visits and have a decision before the season starts.
Leaders: Kentucky, Auburn, Florida.
Way-too-early prediction: Kentucky
28S
Brandon Jones
Nacogdoches, Texas
Scouting report: The 5-10, 185-pound Jones has the ability to play corner as well as safety and be equally effective. His range and ball skills make him an INT waiting to happen.
Latest: Jones visited LSU last month and he plans to take visits to Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma in the near future. He also plans to attend the Rivals Speed & Skill Challenge in Houston on March 28.
Leaders: Jones does not have a list of leaders.
Way-too-early prediction: Texas A&M
29WR
Elijah Stove
Niceville, Fla.
Scouting report: Stove has participated in his share of high-level offseason events and has proven himself to be a serious deep threat along the way. He was the No. 2 WR at the Rivals Speed & Skill Challenge in Orlando. His acceleration is what sets him apart, though, he has the top end speed to stretch the field as well. He could stand to add more strength and become a more consistent route runner, but his tools alone make him a menace.
Latest: Stove plans to visit Auburn, LSU, Georgia and Michigan this offseason.
Leaders: Auburn, LSU, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
Way-too-early prediction: Florida
30WR
Tyler Vaughns
La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat
Scouting report: Vaughns is fast -- and then when the ball is overthrown, he kicks it into another gear to run under it. He not only has speed, but great timing. The four-star knows when to set up cornerbacks by going a little slower, or stutter-stepping, or acting like the ball isn't coming his way and then popping open for the catch. He has long arms, excellent hands and he's clearly one of the best WRs in the class.
Latest: Vaughns was the top wide receiver at the Las Vegas Pylon 7v7 on the first day of the tournament.
Leaders: Vaughns was offered by Alabama recently and that moves the Crimson Tide way up his list. He plans to visit now. USC has also been heavily involved throughout his recruitment, but Vaughns is really just getting started and has no clear frontrunners yet.
Way-too-early prediction: USC
31OT
Tommy Kraemer
Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder
Scouting report: The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Kraemer is a massive offensive tackle, but he also brings great feet to the position. He has the power to dominate the point of attack, but also the quickness to kick out and handle the edge rush.
Latest: Made a commitment to Notre Dame in October and has not wavered on that decision since.
Leaders: Committed to Notre Dame
32WR
Scott Bracey
Richmond (Va.) Benedictine School
Scouting report: Even though he played quarterback last season, Bracey played wide receiver his freshman and sophomore years and that is likely what he will play in college. His straight-line speed and cutting abilities are very impressive and he has excellent body control. Bracey has a knack for making tough, leaping catches along the sideline.
Latest: Bracy spurned offers from Florida State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan and many others to go play at Duke for David Cutcliffe and the up-and-coming Blue Devils. It does not seem like he will be considering any other schools, but that could change depending on how this season goes for Duke.
Leaders: Committed to Duke
33S
Nigel Warrior
Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake
Scouting report: Warrior is a rangy playmaker at the safety position with elite speed. If it weren't for his football career, Warrior could be a track star and his track skills help him cover quite a bit of ground in the defensive secondary.
Latest: Warrior recently visited Auburn and remains in regular contact with Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.
Leaders: Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia
Way-too-early prediction: Tennessee
34LB
Keandre Jones
Olney (Md.) Good Counsel
Scouting report: Jones's athleticism and ability to quickly process what's happening in front of him allows him to be involved in nearly every single play. He has the strength and explosiveness to come downhill or run sideline-to-sideline when defending against the run. He also has the speed to be effective in coverage. He also has a lot of room to fill out his 6-3, 210-pound frame.
Latest: Jones was a player Maryland targeted early on and his commitment helped bring legitimacy to "The Movement." Randy Edsall and his staff are counting on Jones and some other local players to stay home and give the Terps a push to get to that next level. There is some talk of Jones possibly visiting Ohio State later this month.
Leaders: Committed to Maryland
35S
Eric Monroe
Houston (Texas) North Shore
Scouting report: Monroe is a big-hitting safety with range to patrol the back end of the defense. He has quick feet and the ability to change directions in a hurry.
Latest: Monroe has been busy with recent stops at Texas and Texas A&M for Junior Days. He is also running track for North Shore.
Leaders: Monroe is keeping an open mind right now.
Way-too-early prediction: Texas
36WR
Sam Bruce
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Scouting report: The Samborghini, as Bruce is known, uses a quick change of pace to get open on any number of routes. He's only 5-foot-8, but that won't be a problem on the college level as his speed and ability to fire off the line of scrimmage make him and handful for bigger defensive backs that can't match his crisp change of direction. Bruce is a matchup nightmare and the type of player that can gain fistfuls of yards out of the slot in college.
Latest: Bruce, who was the No. 1 wide receiver at the recent RCS: Miami, will likely take his official visits despite being committed to Miami.
Leaders: Committed to Miami
37DE
Shane Simmons
Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Scouting report: Simmons has multiple strengths in his game. Pass rushing is his forte, because he can use his speed and length (6-3, 224) to beat the man in front of him. He has become very good at using his leverage and hand techniques to shed blockers when trying to stop the run.
Latest: Simmons had plenty of options when he decided to commit and ended up choosing Penn State over Florida State. He currently has a couple teammates committed to Maryland, but it seems unlikely that his commitment will waver.
Leaders: Committed to Penn State
38DT
Edwin Alexander
Hammond (La.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Scouting report: Alexander is a solid 6-3, 328 pounds and he is explosive. His first step overwhelms most, and if an opponent survives that, then his punch usually gets the best of them. He also has the speed to chase down plays from the backside.
Latest: Alexander plans to attend the Rivals Camp Series: Dallas and he has been looking at taking visits to LSU, Alabama, USC, and Texas.
Leaders: Alexander is keeping an open mind since decommitting from LSU, but LSU, Alabama, USC, and Florida State are a few schools he has mentioned.
Way-too-early prediction: LSU
39DE
Janarius Robinson
Panama City (Fla.) Bay
Scouting report: Robinson has tremendous length for a weak side defensive end at 6-5, 224 pounds and his speed isn't anything to joke about, either. He fits well within a Florida State defense predicated on pressure. A sure tackler as there is at the position, once Robinson wraps up, the play is over.
Latest: Robinson committed to Florida State in September, but USC and Florida remain involved in his recruitment.
Leaders: Committed to Florida State
40TE
Isaac Nauta
Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
Scouting report: Nauta (6-4, 249 pounds) brings ideal size to the tight end spot. He's shockingly developed as a blocker despite functioning as a primary receiving target for most of his career.
Latest: Nauta committed to Florida State in mid-December. He seems likely to stick with his commitment.
Leaders: Committed to Florida State
