Rivals100 Louisiana QB Justin Rogers commits to TCU

The Latest: It's not easy to for schools outside of Louisiana to get top talent to leave the state, but that's exactly what TCU is set to do after landing a commitment from Rivals100 quarterback Justin Rogers on Wednesday night. Rivals.com caught up with Rogers to break down his decision to head to Fort Worth to play for the Horned Frogs.

In His Words: "Mainly I chose TCU because they had the best relationship with my family. I still consider this committing early, but between the relationship and the feeling I had about the school I didn't want to drag my recruitment into June or July. It’s the school I felt most comfortable, the depth chart plays in my favor and they kept their word from the start."

On being TCU's top priority: "I think it was me, my brother, my dad and Terrace (Marshall) and we went there for their junior day and that’s when they made me realize I was their top guy because I was the only one there. They told me they wanted to put all their chips in with me. Usually you go and you’ll be one of the five or six quarterbacks, but they just had me there and they told me they weren't going to offer any other 2018 quarterbacks. They said that and they held to it and that meant a lot."

On the chance to compete for playing time early: "This is Kenny Hill's last year and then it's Shawn Robinson and one other guy who is going to be a senior next year and one walk-on. Going into a school where you have to compete with one guy, the situation can’t get any better. You look at the situation at the other schools I was looking at and some of them wanted to take two quarterbacks and already had guys there. I'm willing to compete, but I also want to put myself in a situation to succeed."

On his fit in TCU's offense: "The offense is very similar to what I run here at Parkway. I've been down there several times to see them in action and it reminds me a lot of what we do. I have a former teammate there and he gave me some (insight) into the offense. I like the offense and I think I can have a lot of success in it as well."

On his family's connection with the coaches: "My dad pointed it out to me after we visited that Coach Cumbie was the first coach that had a bible on his desk when we went into his office. I know it's a Christian school but that still opened my eyes. He's a God first type of guy and that was something that meant a lot to me and my family."

On being the face of the class going forward: "Coaches have been talking to me about if they can get me on board that would be the key mark in the class because nobody is going to commit to a school without a quarterback. Every recruit is looking to play with a solid quarterback. For me, I think I can help give the class a boost. I've got some guys I'm recruiting already."

Rivals Reaction: Not only did TCU beat out LSU to land Rogers' commitment, but they also edged programs like North Carolina and Oregon. This is a major win for the Horned Frogs and gives the school a prospect to be the face of the class going forward. Rogers is close friends and teammates with five-star wide receiver Terrace Marshall and will likely be a major asset to TCU in his recruitment and that of several other highly-ranked players.
