Rivals100 LB Zakoby McClain talks South Carolina, Oregon and LSU

The Latest: It took a little while for schools to discover Rivals100 linebacker Zakoby McClain in South Georgia, but now that he’s on the radar he’s been collecting offers from major programs on nearly a daily basis. But just because programs from coast-to-coast are offering him, it doesn’t mean he’s a lock to leave SEC country. Rivals.com had a chance to chat with McClain at the recent Rivals 3-Stripe Camp Series stop in Orlando to get an update on his recruitment.

In His Words: “I’ve been hearing a lot from Oregon, South Carolina and LSU.”

Oregon: “I liked that offer a lot because I grew up liking Oregon. I loved the uniforms and all that stuff. I don’t know if I could really see myself going that far for school but it depends.”

South Carolina: “Coach Muschamp has been by my school to talk to my coach and my coach told me they really like me. They think I could get up there and play early and make an impact. They see me as an inside linebacker and it doesn’t matter to me, I’ll play anywhere. I’ve been up there twice. I was just up there a few weeks ago. I like the facilities and the coaches and they really made me feel at home. I brought my family with me and they liked it there as well.”

LSU: “I like their defense, they’re going to hit you. The SEC is a big deal and they’re a big-time SEC defense. I haven’t been there yet but I might go to their spring game because I want to see what it’s like out there.”

Rivals Reaction: In-state program Georgia has shied away from McClain thus far and the Bulldogs loss could be the gain of SEC East rival South Carolina. The fact that McClain has already been to Columbia multiple times is a good sign and add in the fact that his family came as well makes it that much better. His recruitment will likely go on into the summer, but right now the Gamecocks appear to be in good shape.
