Rivals100 DT sets first trip

A few weeks ago, Decatur (Ill.) MacArthur defensive tackle and Rivals100 selection Lawrence Dampeer was all about Ohio State and listed the Buckeyes as his top team. However, as he prepares to take his first official visit this weekend, it looks like the 6-foot-5, 275-pounder has changed things slightly.

“I’m going to Illinois for my first visit this weekend,” Dampeer said. “I’m going to enjoy. They’re my top choice when it comes to distance. They need a couple of guys that can make an instant impact right away, and I could be one of the guys that might make that happen. I could help turn it around.”
Does that mean that Dampeer is now leaning toward Illinois?
“Everybody has their roots and their area of where they were brought up, and that’s something that Illinois has,” he said. “I’m not ready to commit to anybody or anything, but I think that’s something that you really have to look at when it comes time to make a decision.”
But Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Tennessee are also going to get “for sure” visits and he’s ready to hear what those coaches have to say when they make in home visits the next few weeks. He’s already received an in-home from a Tennessee assistant and Miami is heading to his house on Sunday.
“I’ll be interested in what they all have to say,” he said.
On the academic front, Dampeer found out this week that he’s going to be allowed to take the ACT in early January without a time limit.
“That’s great for me,” he said. “I’m going to knock that out.”
Purdue and N.C. State are also under consideration for an official visit if he decides to make any alterations to his schedule.
