Rivals100 DE preps for visit tour

Sam Montgomery brings pure speed off of the edge on the defensive line. That is why the four-star from Greenwood (S.C.) has been such a popular recruiting target throughout his senior season. While he has rarely had a relaxed moment recently, the past couple of weeks of silence in his recruitment have been welcomed.
"Nothing is really going on with us being in a dead period," Montgomery said Friday at the Under Armour All-American Game. "I expect it to pick back up later this month."

In the meantime the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder is taking full advantage of the opportunity to compete against other elite prospects in preparation for Sunday's game.
"This is a great experience," Montgomery said of his week at Disney. "I am enjoying getting to meet a lot of new people and I am enjoying the practices because you get to face some guys that you will play with or against in college. It is a fun experience."
While his phone hasn't been ringing during the dead period, Montgomery has used his recent time to narrow his focus.
"Right now I am considering (Clemson and South Carolina), LSU, North Carolina, USC, Tennessee, Michigan, and Oregon," Montgomery said.
While he is considering a number of schools, one particular team is standing out for his services.
"I would say that LSU is ahead of the pack. I like the people that are going there in this recruiting class. I like the coach. I like what I know about their facilities."
While the Tigers lead, Montgomery is planning to hit the road numerous times in January to find out what a number of other programs have to offer.
"I am planning to take all of my visits in January," Montgomery said. "I plan to use all five of them."
With a full slate of visits scheduled for January, Montgomery will not make any announcements until it is time to sign.
"I am going to wait until Signing Day to decide. I just want to find the right program. I feel like all of them have a good academic program. I want to find that place where I can lay my head down at night and feel at home regardless of football."
The No. 53 player in the Rivals100 will visit Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Oregon on successive weekends beginning on January 9th. He will also fit in a mid-week visit to LSU on January 27th.
