Class of 2015 Rivals100 defensive end Natrez Patrick has been collecting scholarship offers for the better part of his high school career. But he said he knew where he would be committing from the first time he set foot on Georgia's campus.
On Friday night during Atlanta (Ga.) Mays spring game Patrick made his commitment to official, selecting the Dawgs over Ole Miss.
"I prayed about it and talked to my family about it," Patrick said. "My community came out, along with my family and friends, so it seemed like the perfect time to commit."
Patrick, the country's No. 59 overall player, is expected to play linebacker for Georgia. But he said he has the versatility to play several positions.
"They feel I can make an instant impact," the 6-foot-3, 228-pound Patrick said. "They see me as an outside linebacker type of guy, but they feel they can put in multiple positions. Anyway I can get on the field, I'll help my team."
Georgia assistant coach and former Mays star Bryan McClendon was Patrick's primary recruiter and he said their connection went a long way toward easing any concerns he might have.
"I had an instant connection with coach McClendon," Patrick said. "His roots are the exact same (as mine). Same rec ball, same middle school, same high school team. We just clicked instantly, and I did with all of the coaches, honestly."
Patrick said he will now shift to the role of recruiter while, with hopes of helping the Dawgs land Rivals250 teammate Dallas Warmack and the nation's No. 1 overall player, Trenton Thompson.
"I want to help keep Georgia guys in Georgia," he said.
In the end, the chance to stay in-state and close to home is something Patrick takes pride in.
"It's golden," he said. "I'm close to home, and my family gets to come support me anytime. It's just a call away."
Patrick is the eighth member of the Bulldogs' 2015 class, four of which are currently ranked in the Rivals250.
